During the 17th Century the giving of wooden hand-carved gifts to loved ones was common amongst working people, but the gift of the lovespoon originated in Wales. They were given to a woman as an indication of the gentleman’s serious intentions. Designs were often influenced on things around him, and soon certain symbols became traditional with a traditional meaning.
